Keppel (née Edmonstone) was a British society hostess and a
long-time mistress and confidante of King Edward VII. Born in
Woolwich Dockyard, Kent, Alice’s father was the Superintendent at
the Dockyard and a retired admiral in the Royal Navy. Her
