Another year has come and gone, and we lost royals along the way. Royal Central takes a look at the royal deaths in 2023.

King Constantine II of Greece: 1940-2023

Arguably the biggest royal death of the year was King Constantine II of Greece, who died on 10 January 2023 at the age of 82. The last King of Greece had been in bad health for the past several years.

Princess Marie-Gabrielle of Luxembourg: 1925-2023

Princess Marie-Gabrielle of Luxembourg, the paternal aunt of Grand Duke Henri, died on 9th February 2023 at the age of 97. Her older brother was the late Grand Duke Jean.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani: 1929-2023

In Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani died at the age of 94 on 21st July 2023.

Prince Constantin: 1972-2023

The most surprising death of the year came in December when it was announced Prince Constantin of Liechtenstein had died suddenly at the age of 51. He was the third son of reigning Prince Hans Adam II and younger brother of Hereditary Prince Alois.

Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah: 1937-2023

The Emir of Kuwait died on 16 December at the age of 86. His cause of death was not immediately disclosed. He succeeded to the throne in 2020 upon the death of his brother.
