There was a duchess on the FROW at this week’s London Fashion Week as a very special prize was handed over. The Duchess of Cornwall attended one of the high points of the style year in the capital to present the Queen Elizabeth II Award for Design.
Camilla underlined the importance of fashion to the UK as she handed over the prize to 29 year old Bethany Williams, saying ‘’this industry plays a very large part in our economy and culture’’. She also praised the designer who uses recycled and organic materials for her work which is often created in collaboration with charities. Camilla said ‘’she brings ideas and people together and puts change for the good at the heart of her business’’.

The Duchess of Cornwall sat in the coveted front row to see Bethany Williams’ latest designs on show, taking her place next to the editor of British Vogue, Edward Enninful. Williams’ newest collection includes pieces made from recycled newspaper and denim and she worked on the ideas with Adelaide House, a women’s shelter in Liverpool which supports those who have experienced domestic abuse and homelessness or who have just been released from prison.
The Queen Elizabeth II Award for Design is in its second year and the Duchess of Cornwall presented it on behalf of the Queen who famously surprised London Fashion Week last year with her own visit to the event to hand over the inaugural prize.
During her visit to LFW, Camilla also met up and coming stars who have been given the chance to showcase some of their work in the designer showrooms there. She also spoke to established couturiers and milliners about their work.
For the event the Duchess of Cornwall chose an outfit by one of the UK’s most famous design houses, Bruce Oldfield.
