Prince of Wales praises the “dogged determination” of teachers

The Prince of Wales praised the “dogged determination” of teachers throughout the pandemic at the School Leadership Conference on Sunday.

In a pre-recorded welcome message, the Prince, who is a founding patron of the conference’s organising institute, the Prince’s Teaching Institute, thanked teachers for their “continuing commitment to nurturing the next generation in these particularly challenging times.”

Prince Charles said:

“I must say I’m enormously impressed by all that I’ve heard about what you’ve managed to achieve despite all of the many difficulties you have faced.

“Last term, the challenges were coping with teaching in a different way because of social distancing, at the same time as dealing with the mountain of logistical challenges of running a school with staff and student illness, remote teaching, bubbles, constant handwashing, deep cleaning—the list goes on and on.

“Then this year began with a new lockdown and with changes to arrangements for the summer examinations.

“These are unpredictable times for us all, and I just wanted to let you know that your dogged determination to do the best for your students is certainly not going unnoticed.”

The Prince’s Teaching Institute was created with the goal of “making high quality, rigorous and enjoyable education available to every child, regardless of their background or ability,” and their programming is in use in over 280 state secondary schools in England and Wales, with over 700 teachers using their activities.

It was founded in 2006 following a series of yearly summer Prince of Wales Education Summer Schools that operated between 2002 and 2006.

Schools in the United Kingdom are slated to reopen on 8 March, as the coronavirus restrictions begin to ease. One of the new guidelines for families with school-age children will be that they will be able to test for coronavirus twice a week to ensure safety for the entire family and support bubble.
