The National Trust pays tribute to The Queen

With her passing on Thursday, 8 September, at Balmoral Castle, organisations across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth are paying tribute to The Queen and sending their condolences to the Royal Family. The National Trust has shared its thanks for the late monarch’s support on social media.

The National Trust is a charity that works to promote and support heritage conservation efforts across England. The NT owns over 250,000 hectares of land and more than 500 castles, gardens, and historic sites. Her Majesty visited several different National Trust properties throughout her reign.

She visited Runnymeade in 1953 to dedicate the Commonwealth Air Forces Memorial, in 1965 to dedicate the John F. Kennedy Memorial, and finally in 2015 to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta.

She also hosted a garden party at Buckingham Palace in 1995 to celebrate the NT’s centenary.

On their website, National Trust Directory-General Hilary McGrady shared her thoughts:
‘It is difficult to put into words how much The Queen has meant to people in this country and around the world. During her reign, Her Majesty’s towering leadership and unshakable integrity have been sources of pride and inspiration for generations of people across the globe. She selflessly devoted her life to public and voluntary service while championing vitally important issues, from the preservation of wildlife and the environment to opportunities for young people.’

The new monarch, King Charles III, has served as President of the National Trust since 1995, succeeding his late mother in that role. Prior to being President, he served as Vice-President.

In the coming days, plans for the late Queen’s funeral will be announced. Heads of State from around the world, as well politicians and leaders across the UK, have sent messages of condolences. With a historic reign of over 70 years, people across the globe are reflecting upon her incredible life and impact.
