King Harald’s funeral will take place Wednesday 9 September, the Norwegian Royal Court has just announced.
The late king, who passed away on 28 August at the age of 89, will have his funeral service conducted at Oslo Cathedral at 1:00 pm.
Olav Fykse Tveit, the President of the Church of Norway; Sunniva Gyvler, the Bishop of Oslo; Oslo Cathedral Cantor Marcus André Berg; and others, including the Oslo Cathedral Choir participating.
Further details will be released closer to King Harald’s funeral.
King Harald died as dawn broke in Oslo on August 28 and was immediately succeeded to the throne by his son who is now King Haakon VIII.
The new king led his mother, Queen Sonja, and his wife, Queen Mette-Marit, as they accompanied King Harald’s coffin back to the Royal Palace late on August 28.
King Harald’s coffin has since rested in the Red Room of the Royal Palace but will be moved to the Chapel on August 31 where it will lie in state until his funeral.
King Haakon and the new heir to the throne, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, took part in a church service at Asker on Sunday morning in memory of King Harald.
Queen Sonja joined them, her first public appearance since the death of her husband of 58 years.
King Haakon’s son, Prince Sverre Magnus, was also with them.
Flowers continue to be left at the Royal Palace in Oslo in memory of King Harald.
