The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reveal family video call mayhem

WILLIAM AND KATE, DUKE AND DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE

As the UK continues to live in lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic, new ways of keeping in touch are becoming the norm. And that’s as true for the royals as any other family.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been talking about how their children are staying in touch with their grandparents as isolation stops them spending time with them in person. During an interview with the BBC, William and Kate revealed that making sure Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis still chat to their grandparents is very important.

The Duchess of Cambridge revealed just how much the family is relying on technology to get through current circumstances.

“I think your father and my parents and our families and things like that have really loved keeping in touch with the children because they know it’s really hard,” said Kate.

However, when it comes to technology such as Zoom, Skype or, Facetime, Prince William says things do not come without its challenges for the older generation.

“As you can imagine, the younger generation are a little bit more tech-savvy. But only just,” said William.

“I think we’re getting there now, the family are getting a little bit more used to being able to contact each other and pressing the right buttons and not dropping the computer halfway through.”

While the older family members may have some technical difficulties, Prince Louis has been causing quite a bit of trouble when it comes to video chatting.

“It gets a bit hectic, I’m not going to lie, with the two-year-old,” admitted Kate.

William replied, laughing, “for some reason he sees the red button, and always wants to press the red button.”

Despite technical issues, William said that video calling is one way that people can keep some sense of normalcy for their kids.

“It’s been a really good way of keeping in touch and seeing each other.”

The family may well be video calling the Queen on her 94th birthday, April 21st, and there are more celebrations just days later as Prince Louis turns two on April 23. Princess Charlotte will also mark her birthday this year in lockdown as she turns five on May 2nd 2020.
