New portrait of The King and Queen marks important moment

The King is set to return to public duties after several months away because of treatment for cancer.

His Majesty stopped public facing engagements in February after he was diagnosed with cancer.

His medical team advised limiting his diary to private engagements and constitutional matters.

However, following that stage of his treatment and a period of recuperation, King Charles will return to public engagements in the week to come. His medical team are ”sufficiently pleased with the progress made so far”.

It means The King can take up some engagements again and his first appearance will be a visit to a cancer treatment centre alongside Queen Camilla.

Their Majesties will meet patients and medical specialists during their visit.

However, his treatment continues and future duties will be adapted as is seen necessary

Buckingham Palace has also announced that as The King returns to public duties, a State Visit is planned. The Emperor and Empress of Japan will be hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla in late June.

A new portrait of The King and Queen was also issued. It was taken by Millie Pilkington at Buckingham Palace on the day after the couple’s 19th wedding anniversary.
