Queen Margrethe has led Denmark in a moment of silence for the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Margrethe, who is celebrating her Golden Jubilee this weekend, led the attendees at the Royal Theatre performance in a moment of silence for her cousin and close friend.
An adjusted gala performance was held for Nordic heads of state at the Royal Theatre, which underwent a recent renovation, on 10 September. The Danish Royal Family was joined by Greek, Norwegian and Swedish royals for the event that saw various performances and a gala dinner.
Queen Margrethe scaled down her celebrations in Queen Elizabeth’s memory.
The Guard Parade at the Amalienborg Palace Square was cancelled, and the visit to Copenhagen City Hall was postponed. Both were scheduled for 10 September.
The church service on 11 September will occur but in an adapted form. However, the lunch for the Nordic heads of state and Danish Royal Family on the royal yacht, Dannebrog, will continue as planned. The Galataflet at Christiansborg Palace will also take place but in an altered form.
The Queen of Denmark also ordered that flags at the palaces at Amalienborg be flown at half-mast on 9 September.
Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee celebrations were due to take place in January, but a surge in COVID cases led to the delay of the events.
