Queen Elizabeth II

The Queen leaves Balmoral Castle for the last time as she begins her final journey

The late Queen Elizabeth II left Balmoral Castle for the final time on Sunday as her coffin left Balmoral Castle for the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The journey, which is expected to take six hours, will give the people of Scotland the opportunity to pay their respects to the late monarch.

All across the route, people lined the streets to pay their tributes to the monarch of 70 years.

The Queen’s oak coffin is adorned with the Royal Standard of Scotland.

Princess Anne and Sir Tim Laurence followed the hearse for the duration of its journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh.

The Queen’s State Funeral will be held at 11 am on 19 September at Westminster Abbey.

Queen Elizabeth II will Lie-in-State in Westminster Hall for four days to allow the public to pay their respects.

The Queen’s coffin will remain in Scotland until 13 September, when it will be taken to London.

The Royal Air Force will fly Queen Elizabeth’s coffin to RAF Northolt on 13 September; the Princess Royal will accompany her mother’s body back to England. Her Late Majesty’s body will be placed in Buckingham Palace’s Bow Room until the afternoon of 14 September.
