‘Our Queen at 90’ to air tonight

“I feel she’s been there, a gentle guidance really for me.”

The Duchess also made the revelation in the documentary that she made The Queen some chutney for her first Christmas with the royal family, and after she saw it on the table the next day at lunch, it gave her a feeling of acceptance.

Other royals offer insight into the Queen as a mother, grandmother, and monarch.

Prince William talks about the public reaction to the Queen, saying, “I’ve seen people literally faint in front of her. It’s quite a startling moment as to what to do when you faint in front of the Queen.”

Prince Charles jokes that “I said to my mother the other day, do you realise that when you reach 90 I shall have known you for 68 years, she had to laugh a little bit.”

Prince Harry hailed his grandmothers’ sense of duty as ‘quite remarkable’.

He also touched upon her decades of service to the crown, saying, “When you think that all these years the Queen has been on the throne, that in itself is a huge achievement, coping with so many different challenges and complications and always being there really in that remarkable way – steadfast.”

The 31 year old also admitted that he finds it ‘hard’ to cope with the pressure that comes with being related to The Queen saying that he feels other royals are simply ‘walking in her footsteps’.He added: “There is nowhere on this planet I can think of that she hasn’t been in the last 90 years.”She’s been everywhere, and sometimes that’s quite hard because you go to a place where she hasn’t visited for 20, maybe 15 years, and you think to yourself, how can I ever fulfill this huge expectation that comes with her and being a member of her family?”

Speaking about his grandmother becoming monarch at such a young age, Harry said: “It’s just incredible to know that someone of that age appreciated and understood exactly what was expected of them, and to basically put duty ahead of everything else so early on in her life. It’s quite remarkable.”

The Countess of Wessex will also make an appearance in the programme where she comments on Her Majesty’s sense of style.
Speaking of the Queen, the Countess said: ‘When she turns up somewhere, the crowds are 15-deep and somebody wants to be able to say that they saw a bit of the Queen’s hat when she went past.

‘She needs to be able to stand out, for people to be able to say, “I saw the Queen”.’

Aside from the Queen’s many public duties, Princess Eugenie reveals more about the Queen’s private life, and her escape to Balmoral in Scotland.

“It’s the most beautiful place on Earth. I think Granny is the most happy there, I think she really, really loves the Highlands…walks, picnics, dogs, a lot of dogs, there’s always dogs, and people coming in and out all the time. Family-wise we’re all there, so it’s a lovely base for Granny and Grandpa to be – for us to come and see them up there where you just have room to breathe and run.”
