Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden honoured the late Queen Elizabeth II from Stockholm on the day of the late monarch’s funeral.
The Crown Princess Couple visited the British Ambassador’s Residence and the Church of England to light memorial candles and sign the condolence book in Stockholm.
Sweden also held the Seraphim Toll on the afternoon of the funeral, 19 September, which is open to the public and media. It’s a tradition in Sweden that when a member of the Order of the Seraphim dies, the Seraphim Toll takes place for an hour at Riddarholm Church.
During the service, Queen Elizabeth II’s Coat of Arms with the Seraphim shield was carried in a procession from the Royal Palace to Riddarholm Church; there, her Coat of Arms and shield was hung in the chancel alongside other former members of the Order of the Seraphim who have died.
Queen Elizabeth was the 722nd member of the Order after its establishment in 1748. She held the Order of the Seraphim longer than anyone else, at 69 years.
King Gustaf VI Adolf appointed Her Late Majesty to the Order on 26 May 1953. She was then presented with the chain of the Order of the Seraphim on 23 May 1975 by King Carl XVI Gustaf.
Flags were also flying at half-mast at Sweden’s royal palaces in honour of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth by orders of King Carl XVI Gustaf.
