Queen Elizabeth II has been buried next to Prince Philip

Queen Elizabeth II has been laid to rest at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor.

Her Late Majesty was buried in the King George VI Memorial Chapel within the ancient church. Her late husband, Prince Philip, was laid to rest beside her at the same time in a private family service.

The coffin of the Duke of Edinburgh had rested in the Royal Vault beneath St. George’s since his funeral in April 2021. The couple, who were married for 73 years, always said they would wait to be buried alongside each other.

That has now happened. The Queen and Prince Philip were buried alongside her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother and her sister, Princess Margaret on the evening of September 19th 2022.

It followed the State Funeral of Her Late Majesty, attended by 2,000 guests at Westminster Abbey. Hundreds of thousands lined the streets of London to say a final farewell as her funeral procession went slowly from the ancient church to Wellington Arch. There, her coffin was placed in a hearse and driven to Windsor. Thousands more lined the route.

The Long Walk at Windsor was packed with mourners, some of whom applauded in memory of Her Late Majesty and her achievements.

A Service of Committal at St. George’s ended with the removal of the Crown from her coffin which was then lowered into the Royal Vault.

The private burial took place as the light faded from the sky and was confirmed later in a brief statement on the Royal Family’s official website.

Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8th 2022. She was 96 years old and had reigned for 70 years.
