Sweden’s youngest royal turns one

Sweden’s youngest royal has celebrated his first birthday.

Prince Julian of Sweden, the youngest child of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, turned one on 26 March. He celebrated the day privately.

His parents posted two photos of him on their Instagram account to mark the day, saying: “Our lovely Julian 1 year today.”

The Prince is by himself in one photo showing off several of his baby teeth; in the second photo, he is getting kisses from his two older brothers, Prince Alexander, 5, and Prince Gabriel, 4.

Prince Julian Herbert Folke, Duke of Halland, was born in Danderyd Hospital. He is the youngest grandchild of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia and ranks seventh in the Swedish line of succession.

He was christened in the Royal Chapel of Drottningholm Palace on 14 August 2021, wearing the Swedish Royal Family’s traditional christening gown. Unlike his brothers, he does not have any royal godparents. His godparents are his paternal cousin, Patrick Sommerlath; friends of his parents, Johan and Stina Andersson and Jacob Högfeldt; and co-founder of Princess Sofia’s charity, Project Playground, Frida Vesterberg.

After Julian’s birth, Princess Sofia wrote on Instagram: “Life gave me not only one but four beautiful princes. A sincere thank you from us for all the warm congratulations in connection with Julian’s birth.”

This comment was accompanied by photos of the baby prince with his two older brothers after coming home from the hospital.
