Slimmed down confirmation set for Princess Leonor

The Princess of Asturias will be confirmed into the Catholic Church in a simple ceremony alongside her classmates.

Leonor’s confirmation will take place on May 28th 2021 at the same church where she made her First Communion, at Our Lady of Aravaca in Madrid.

The ceremony, a year earlier than expected, will be scaled back for all those taking part, because of restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Leonor is currently studying at the Santa Maria of Rosales school in the Spanish capital. However, she is due to move to Wales this autumn to complete her secondary education at UWC Atlantic College.

There will be limits on the numbers of guests each pupil can invite meaning it is likely only Leonor’s parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, and her sister, Infanta Sofia, will be able to attend the service.

The Princess of Asturias was baptised on January 14th 2006 at the Zarzuela Palace in Madrid with her paternal grandparents, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, as her godparents.
