Leonor returns from Wales for annual Princess of Asturias Awards

The Princess of Asturias has returned from her school in Wales to attend the annual Princess of Asturias Awards in Oviedo.

The heir to the Spanish throne is currently attending the UWC Atlantic College to obtain her International Baccalaureate, but her autumn break fell at a time where she could attend the Princess of Asturias Awards alongside her parents, King Felipe and Queen Letizia, and her younger sister, Infanta Sofía on the evening of 21 October.

On Thursday evening, the royals attended the Princess of Asturias Awards Concert at the “Príncipe Felipe” Conference Centre Auditorium. The concert is part of a series of events to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts.

Their Majesties and Their Royal Highnesses met patrons of the CajAstur Foundation and the Liberbank Board of Directors inside the conference centre ahead of the concert. They then took their seats in the box of honour in time for the playing of the national anthem.

The Principality of Asturias Symphony Orchestra (OSPA) performed a tribute to Joaquín Rodrigo before playing the Anthem of the Principality of Asturias at the conclusion of the concert.

The royals then had the opportunity to meet orchestra conductor Josep Vicent, the manager of the orchestra, Ana María de Jesús Mateo, and some of the musicians.

Afterwards, the King and Queen travelled to Deloya Latores to preside over a dinner by the Princess of Asturias Foundation for the Board of Trustees and award recipients.

King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía will attend the Princess of Asturias Awards later today after receiving the winners in an audience at the Reconquista Hotel.
