Princess Charlene attends first National Day since illness

Princess Charlene has attended her first National Day in Monaco since her lengthy illness that kept her out of the country and away from her family for many months.

The Princess of Monaco attended the Te Deum Mass at Monaco Cathedral before returning to the Princely Palace for the parade in the Palace Square; this is the first “normal” National Day since the global health crisis began.

Those at the 90-minute Te Deum included the Prince and Princess of Monaco, Princess Caroline and Princess Stéphanie. Caroline and Stéphanie’s children were also in the cathedral for the religious ceremony.

The Prince and Princess of Monaco then drove through the streets of Monaco to greet the crowds on the way back to the Princely Palace.

Albert and Charlene reunited with their twins, seven-year-olds Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, at the Princely Palace for the parade and balcony appearance. Other extended members of the Princely Family, like Pierre Casiraghi, Beatrice Borromeo and their two sons. Pierre’s sister, Charlotte, was joined by her husband, Dimitri Rassam and their son; her son from a previous relationship also attended.

The other children and grandchildren of Princess Caroline and the children of Princess Stéphanie were also in the Palace Square for the parade.

Prince Albert reviewed the troops before the family returned to the palace. He reappeared alongside the Princely Family on the balcony, where Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques were seen waving Monaco’s flag as the parade took place.

Ahead of the celebrations on 19 November, Princess Charlene took to Instagram to mark the occasion with a new photo of her two children. Young Prince Jacques was dressed like his father in a military uniform, while Princess Gabriella wore a red dress and black hat.

The Princely Palace later shared a gallery of photo highlights from the celebrations on Facebook.

Monaco’s National Day, a religious and civic holiday, takes place annually on 19 November.
