Belgian Royal Palace denies reports of apartment break-in

The Belgian Royal Palace has denied reports that someone broke into a royal apartment in France.

The French newspaper Le Parisien reported that Queen Paola’s apartment in Paris was burglarised and “several millions of euros worth of jewellery and leather goods” were taken.

The paper said the break-in was in Parc Monceau, a wealthy area of the French capital.

The newspaper later changed its report and said there was “ambiguity about the identity” of the owners of the apartment.

The Belgian Royal Palace told the Belgian news agency Belga that Queen Paola does not have an apartment in that area of Paris.

They said: “The original article from ‘Le Parisien’ that linked the theft to an apartment belonging to the Queen is therefore incorrect.”

Queen Paola is the mother of the reigning King of the Belgians, Philippe, and is the wife of Belgium’s former King, Albert II.
