The Danish Royal Household has announced that Queen Margarethe will visit Greenland from the 8th to the 12th of October.
The visit was originally supposed to take place between July and August of this year, but had to be postponed due to a series of CoViD-19 outbreaks throughout Greenland.
Her Majesty will be in four locations within Greenland: Ilulissat, Nuuk (which is Greenland’s capital), Pituffik and Station Nord.
In Ilulissat, Queen Margarethe will honour the 100th anniversary of the 5th Thule expedition by Knud Rasmussen by visiting his birth place, as well as touring the recently inaugurated Ilulissat Icefjord Center, which focuses on the Arctic environment which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In Nook, Her Majesty will attend a gala in her honour and take part in the inauguration of the Diocese of Greenland’s new bishop, Paneeraq Siegstad Munk, as well as participating in an event at Ilisimatusarfik University of Greenland to mark the 300th anniversary of Hans Edge’s arrival in Greenland.
In Pituffik, Queen Margarethe will visit Thule Air Force Base, and her visit will conclude with a trip to Station Nord.
This visit comes in the 100th anniversary of the first Danish Royal visit to Greenland, which was made by Queen Margarethe’s grandfather, King Christian X, in 1921.
No further details have been shared so far, but it is understood that a more in-depth program for the trip will be made public once the dates are closer. It is also possible that some events will remain under wraps until they are concluded to avoid attracting crowds and creating large gatherings, which are proven to be one of the ways the virus spreads.
Queen Margarethe has only just started her agenda full time again after the summer break, and has already been filling up her calendar between her official Royal engagements and her work as a costume and scene designer for an upcoming Netflix adaptation of a Danish fantasy novel that the streaming platform will release in 2023.
