The Princess of Wales in hospital following abdominal surgery

The Princess of Wales has undergone successful abdominal surgery at The London Clinic, Kensington Palace has announced.

Catherine was admitted to the hospital yesterday for planned surgery and will now require between 10-14 days of hospital recovery before going home to continue recovery there.

Kensington Palace shared that this will mean the royal is unlikely to return to public engagements before Easter.

According to Kensington Palace, Catherine “appreciates the interest this statement will generate” and hopes that the public “will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remain private.”

Reporters are, however, being told that Catherine’s surgery is not cancer-related. Kensington Palace will only provide updates on Catherine’s recovery when there is significant news to share.

The Prince of Wales is understood to be curtailing his own set of engagements to better care for Catherine and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Kensington Palace also conveyed Catherine’s apologies for having to postpone upcoming engagements and added that “she looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
