The Princess of Wales cancels public duties until after Easter following major surgery

Catherine, The Princess of Wales speaks about her early years project, Shaping Us, on visit to Leeds

The Princess of Wales is not expected to undertake any public duties until at least Easter following her admission to hospital on Tuesday for abdominal surgery.

Her Royal Highness is due to stay in hospital for up-to 14 days, before continuing her recovery at home in Windsor.

To aid her recovery, Catherine has cancelled her upcoming diary of engagements until after the Easter period.

Her husband, Prince William, has also adjusted his diary to ensure he is best able to support his wife and their three children during the recovery period.

It was expected that the couple would visit Italy in March, with this visit, and others, now being postponed.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: “The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has had to postpone her upcoming engagements.”

They added that she “looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”

The Princess has expressed her wish that her medical details remain private, although it is understood that her operation is not related to cancer.

Kensington Palace will only issue a further update in the event of there being significant new information to share.
