The King and Queen throw their support behind the Princess of Wales

The King and Queen have thrown their support behind the Princess of Wales in her mission to spread Christmas cheer.

As reported by Royal Central, King Charles and Queen Camilla will attend the Christmas carol concert that has been organised by the Princess of Wales.

After a successful inaugural concert in 2021, Her Royal Highness has decided to hold a further event this year at Westminster Abbey.

Due to her declining health, Queen Elizabeth II was unable to attend last year’s concert which was widely praised as being a major festive success.

But despite not being there in person, the late Queen showed her support by donating some Christmas trees from Windsor Great Park to help decorate the Abbey.

The King has decided to attend this year’s service, which will be held on December 15th, in a major show of support for his daughter-in-law’s project.

The Princess of Wales has dedicated the 2022 concert to the memory of Queen Elizabeth II who died in September at the age of 96.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson says the service will honour “the values Her Majesty demonstrated throughout her life, including duty, empathy, faith, service, kindness, compassion and support for others.”

A number of high profile figures will perform at this year’s concert, including Craig David and Alfie Boe. The Prince of Wales and Hugh Bonneville will be amongst those to deliver readings at the service.

In 2021, the Duchess of Cambridge, as she was then known, took to the piano for a surprise performance. It is not known whether Her Royal Highness will show off her musical skills this year.

For the first time, Together at Christmas carol services will also be held across the UK with celebrations in December in a string of locations including Belfast, Wolverhampton and Swansea. The local celebrations will be tailored to their own communities while including elements from the Westminster Abbey service.

Together at Christmas at the Abbey will be recorded and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
