The Duchess of Cambridge to take on Roger Federer for charity

The Duchess of Cambridge is teaming up with tennis legend Roger Federer for a charity project supporting two of her patronages.

Next month, ahead of the Laver Cup, Kate and Roger Federer will join forces on Laver Cup Open Practice Day to raise money for two of her patronages: Action for Children and the Lawn Tennis Association, whose fundraising arm is the LTA Tennis Foundation.

Action for Children supports vulnerable young people and campaigns to improve their lives through the 512 services they run throughout the UK. The LTA Tennis Foundation encourages people who have never played the sport before to try tennis and works with the local communities it serves to achieve results.

The Laver Cup Open Practice Day is on 22 September and takes place at the O2 in London. On Open Practice Day, Roger Federer will be joined by other tennis greats from ‘Team Europe’ and ‘Team World’ for final practices ahead of the Laver Cup.

Kensington Palace also announced that the Duchess and Roger Federer will attend a sneak peek ahead of the Open Practice Day in East London, with tennis matches played by children from Action for Children and LTA Serves, one of the LTA Tennis Foundation’s primary endeavours.

It was Kate’s idea for the partnership between the Laver Cup, Action for Children and the LTA Tennis Foundation. The Palace said the Duchess “is passionate about supporting grassroots tennis and encouraging young people from all backgrounds to become involved in the sport.”

Roger Federer tweeted from his official account: “Excited to announce that Laver Cup is partnering with The Duchess of Cambridge this year to raise funds for two incredible charities – @actionforchildrenuk and the @LTA Tennis Foundation. Thank you for your support, and I look forward to seeing you in London!”
