The Duchess of Cambridge has landed in Denmark for her first solo overseas tour since 2017.
The Duchess touched down in Copenhagen for a two-day visit that will highlight her Early Year Foundation and honour The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year. Upon her arrival, the Duchess was greeted by Emma Hopkins, the British ambassador to Denmark. This is the second visit to the country for Her Royal Highness. She visited in 2011, just months after her marriage to the Duke of Cambridge.
The first stop on the itinerary was the University of Copenhagen where the Duchess learned from world-leading researchers about the Copenhagen Infant Mental Health Project (CIMHP.) The project is focused on promoting the mental well-being of infants, and the relationships between them and their parents.
Following the university visit, Kate had some fun as she visited the LEGO Foundation Playlab at the University College Copenhagen. She was there to learn about the Playful Learning Programme, a partnership between six university colleges in Denmark and the LEGO Foundation, focused on enhancing children’s creative and experimental approach to learning. While there to learn about the programme, the Duchess couldn’t resist taking a ride down the giant slide in the building.
During her tour, Kate will meet up with Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. The pair are scheduled to see the work of the Mary Foundation. Founded in 2007 by the Crown Princess, the foundation works to protect vulnerable women and children from domestic violence.
The Duchess will be hosted at Christian IX’s Palace by Queen Margrethe II on day two of her visit. Like The Queen, Queen Margrethe is also celebrating a Jubilee. This year marks Queen Margrethe’s 50th year on the throne.
This is the first time Kate has taken the work of The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood to an international stage. The Foundation is aimed at increasing awareness and encouraging the best work for children between birth and the age of five. The last time we saw the Duchess on a major overseas tour was in 2019 alongside her husband, the Duke of Cambridge, when they paid a visit to Pakistan. Her last solo tour was to Luxembourg in 2017.
