The Duchess of Cambridge attended an unanticipated tiara event today in Lahore at the Shaukat Khanum Children’s Cancer Centre.
William and Kate were visiting patients at the centre when they joined seven-year-old, Wafia Rehmani, a patient from Afghanistan with a kidney tumour, for a princess tea party.
Kate and Wafia both wore sparkling toy tiaras over tea, and Wafia told the Duke and Duchess how she wants to be a doctor when she grows up. She then showed them her toy doctor set.
The Shaukat Khanum Children’s Cancer Centre treats between 400-500 new patients each year with up-to-date treatment for the majority of childhood cancers. According to its website, they also treat around 7,000 outpatients to monitor ongoing treatment and follow-up care.
Diana, Princess of Wales, visited the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital twice in the ‘90s. Ahead of their visit today, William and Kate shared a photo on their Instagram account of Diana meeting a young patient.
The hospital was founded in 1994 by Diana’s friend and Pakistan’s current Prime Minister, Imran Khan.
