It’s the first day of spring today and the Royal Family has taken to social media to celebrate the blooming of a brand new season. This fresh chapter in the year’s story has been told online by the Windsors with photos of Buckingham Palace bursting into life.
As the sun tried to peek through the grey clouds, the official Twitter and Instagram accounts of the Royal Family shared images of the camellias, magnolias and spring flowers currently brightening up the gardens of the Queen’s official residence.
And it seems the Royal Family aren’t the only ones enjoying the blooms as the palace geese were given a name check while they took a casual stroll in the grounds. Meanwhile, the always ecologically minded Windsors revealed they are planting a new wildflower meadow at Buckingham Palace to provide support for bees and pollinators.
Visitors to Buckingham Palace’s summer season will get a chance to see some of the gardens when doors are opened for the annual visits which take place in July and August. Those attending garden parties will also get to see the grounds in all their glory. That most keen of royal gardeners, the Prince of Wales, is on tour in the Caribbean as spring gets under way but his home at Highgrove has shared a special image to mark the start of the season. It features a narcissus , named the Duke of Rothesay in honour of Charles’ main Scottish title, and as spring began it was shown bobbing in the breeze of a March day.
This new season brings a lot of excitement for the Royal Family. We know that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting a spring baby with the new seventh in line to the throne due at the end of April. They might even share a birthday with their cousin, Prince Louis of Cambridge, who turns one on April 23rd 2019 while the end of the spring season brings a special anniversary as the Earl and Countess of Wessex mark twenty years of married life on June 19th 2019.
