The King’s Official Birthday Parade – first details revealed

The first Trooping the Colour of the reign of King Charles III will take place on June 17th 2022.

It will mark the Official Birthday of King Charles for the first time.

The Sovereign’s Birthday Parade will take over central London just weeks after His Majesty is crowned at Westminster Abbey.

Regiments of the Household Division will take part in the pageantry at Horse Guards Parade. Charles III will take the salute as Sovereign for the first time although he has taken it before, on behalf of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

His Majesty will hold the appointment of Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiments of Household Division.

Three new royal Colonels within the Foot Guards have also been announced. The Princess of Wales is now Colonel of The Irish Guards while the Prince of Wales becomes Colonel of the Welsh Guards.

The Grenadier Guards now have Her Majesty Queen Camilla as their Colonel.

The other Colonelcies of the other Regiments within the Household Division remain the same. The Princess Royal is Colonel of the Blues and Royals while the Duke of Kent remains Colonel of the Scots Guards.

Trooping the Colour has taken place for over 260 years and marks the Official Birthday of the Monarch. It involves over 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians.

The Royal Family will appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace following the Sovereign’s Birthday Parade where they will join crowds to enjoy a fly past by the RAF.
