The Duke & Duchess of Gloucester’s apartment under refurbishment for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

With less than two weeks remaining until Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s anticipated wedding, work remains underway on the couple’s new family residence at Kensington Palace.

Nottingham Cottage has been Prince Harry’s long-time bachelor residence, following in his brother’s footsteps since before his own marriage. The cottage has been the couple’s residence since their engagement which was announced from the beautiful grounds of the cottage late last year.

Kensington Palace which has been home to many members of the British royal family over the years has been the home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge since 2013 and is also home to Princess Eugenie of York, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke and Duchess of Kent, and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.

Contrary to his brother’s early days of marriage, the new royal couple is reportedly planning to move into their new residence as soon as possible. Whereas, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge lived at Nottingham Cottage for a greater length of time after they were married. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have kept it no secret that they wish to start a family soon. Many wonders if this recent insurgence of refurbishment at Kensington is a sign of things to come for the new royal couple.

According to the Daily Mail, the chosen apartment has for nearly the last fifty years been the residence of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. Previously, sources have reported that Prince Harry has always intended to make said apartment at Kensington his permanent residence. And with mere moments remaining before Prince Harry is to wed Miss Meghan Markle, the lavish palace wing is receiving a royal treatment of its own, the Prince keeping an eagerly close eye on renovations as they unfold.

Roof repair and the application fresh mortar on the chimney stacks has been witnessed on the exterior of the palace wing, hinting to what is hopefully the near end of refurbishments for the 21-room Apartment 1 of Kensington Palace. This arrangement will ultimately make the new royal couple next door neighbors with Prince Harry’s brother William the Duke of Cambridge and his growing family in their 20-room apartment 1A. The two apartments are said to be joined by a singular door connecting the two as closely as one can get.

The residence at Kensington Palace has often been rumoured to be the next home of Prince Harry and ultimately his bride. From secret trees being planted for privacy near the wing to Miss Markle using the grounds for the purpose of walking her dogs, many believed that this was a strong indication for the future of the couple.

Twelve days remain until Prince Harry and Miss Meghan Markle’s wedding at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. Anticipation continues to build as the wedding of the moment approaches and the couple is set to begin their lives together.
