The much reduced version of Trooping the Colour, being held at Windsor Castle to mark the Queen’s official birthday, will be shown on TV. The BBC have confirmed they will cover the special ceremony on June 13th 2020.
The traditional pageant of Trooping the Colour had to be cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, Buckingham Palace announced that a military salute would take place inside Windsor Castle to mark the event.
Now, it’s been confirmed that the event will be shown on BBC One, starting at 10.30am on Saturday, June 13th. The programme will be presented by Huw Edwards.
The Queen has been living at Windsor since the middle of March, bringing forward her usual arrival there for Easter because of the pandemic. The Duke of Edinburgh is with her. It’s not yet known whether Prince Philip, who turns 99 on June 10th, will attend the salute.
Current coronavirus pandemic restrictions make it unlikely that any other members of the Royal Family will be present for the event. The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are in isolation at Birkhall on the Balmoral Estate in Scotland while the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children are living an Anmer Hall near Sandringham in Norfolk.
Buckingham Palace took the decision to call off the traditional Trooping the Colour several months ago, citing government guidelines.
