The Queen has released a statement to the nation on her official 91st birthday, recognising that although it is supposed to be a day of celebration, the nation is very much still in mourning.
On Friday The Queen and the Duke of Cambridge visited the scene of the the London tower fire where 30 people died and over 70 are still believed missing.
In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, The Queen said: “Today is traditionally a day of celebration. This year, however, it is difficult to escape a very’ sombre national mood. In recent months, the country has witnessed a succession of terrible tragedies.
“As a nation, we continue to reflect and pray for all those who have been directly affected by these events. During recent visits in Manchester and London, I have been profoundly struck by the immediate inclination of people throughout the country to offer comfort and support to those in desperate need.
“Put to the test, the United Kingdom has been resolute in the face of adversity. United in our sadness, we are equally determined, without fear or favour, to support all those rebuilding lives so horribly affected by injury and loss.

Grenfell Tower in Kensington set ablaze on Wednesday morning with around 600 people in the building at the time.
All of these people have now lost their homes and property, as well as family, friends and loved ones.
30 people are confirmed to have died, however, that number is expected to rise significantly. Around 70 people are thought to be missing, including those who have died.
