The Queen attended the joint christening of two of her great-grandchildren on Sunday afternoon, following a month of concern about her health.
On Sunday, Buckingham Palace confirmed in a statement that “Masters August Brooksbank and Lucas Tindall were christened in a private family service at All Saints Chapel, Royal Lodge, Windsor, today. The service was attended by The Queen, immediate family and close friends.”
The Sun reported exclusively about the joint christening earlier this weekend, with a royal source reportedly saying, “Her Majesty is very keen to be there as she knows how important this is for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”
This is the first major family event The Queen has attended since her health problems began.
The Queen has been on light desk duties since the end of October following medical advice. It was later reported that she spent the night in hospital when the news broke, simply for tests and observation. Her last face-to-face engagement was a business investment summit reception at Windsor Castle on 19 October.
Following a month of speculation about her health, including her cancelled attendance at COP26 in Glasgow at the beginning of November and her continued absence during the Festival of Remembrance and Remembrance Sunday mid-month, The Queen undertook her first face-to-face engagement on 17 November at Windsor Castle, meeting with General Sir Nick Carter, the Chief of the Defence Staff, upon his relinquishment of the post.
The Royal Family have been quick to downplay any notes of seriousness about The Queen’s condition. During his royal visit to Jordan last week, Prince Charles told reporters, “She’s alright thank you very much. Once you get to 95, it’s not quite as easy as it used to be. It’s bad enough at 73.”
August Philip Hawke Brooksbank was born on 9 February, the first child for Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank. Lucas Philip Tindall was born on 21 March, the first son and third child of Zara and Mike Tindall.
