The Queen ‘regretfully’ cancels her visit to the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow following medical advice

The Queen has ‘regretfully’ cancelled her upcoming visit to Glasgow where she was due to attend the COP26 climate change summit.

Following on from medical advice to rest, the 95-year-old monarch has decided to stay at Windsor Castle.

She will still participate at the conference, albeit in a virtual format.

A statement from Buckingham Palace reads: “Following advice to rest, the Queen has been undertaking light duties at Windsor Castle.

“Her Majesty has regretfully decided that she will no longer travel to Glasgow to attend the Evening Reception of COP26 on Monday, 1 November.

“Her Majesty is disappointed not to attend the reception but will deliver an address to the assembled delegates via a recorded video message.”

Sky News reports that The Queen is concerned that her absence may now be used by some world leaders as an excuse not to attend themselves.

Other members of The Royal Family will still be in attendance at the summit, including the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

Despite the cancellation of some of Her Majesty’s in-person events, The Queen has been working behind Windsor Castle’s walls at her desk.

The monarch has been holding virtual audiences at Windsor Castle via videolink.
