To mark the occasion of Her Majesty The Queen becoming Britain’s longest reigning Monarch on September 9th, special photographic displays will open at various royal residences across the country.

Entitled ‘Long To Reign Over Us’, the displays will open from Wednesday 9th September at Windsor Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Buckingham Palace and will mark the 63 year reign of Queen Elizabeth II through a series of photographs from 1952 to the present day.
The earliest photo in the display is a black and white portrait by Dorothy Wilding from February 1952 while the most recent photo was taken at the procession of the Order of the Garter in June 2015. The photo exhibitions will be on display at Buckingham Palace until the end of summer opening on 27th September, until 5th January 2016 at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and until the 28th January 2016 at Windsor Castle.
Aside from the displays, the Royal Collection Trust are also publishing the ‘Long To Reign Over Us’ official souvenir album, which will be illustrated with over 250 colour photographs. As a department of the Royal Household, the Royal Collection Trust are responsible for the care of the Royal Collection as well as managing the public openings of The Queen’s official residences. The work of the Royal Collection Trust is undertaken without any public funding.
The images included in the three photographic displays set to open include official portraits and photographs of The Queen taken on both overseas visits and those closer to home. The displays also feature more personal photographs of The Queen, capturing the more informal moments of Her Majesty’s reign. Notable highlights of the exhibitions include the 1953 official Coronation Day portrait by Cecil Beaton and The Queen as Sovereign of The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of The Thistle and Chief of The Chiefs by Julian Calder.
Buckingham Palace will host family activities throughout September in the Family Pavilion as will Windsor Castle in the Moat Garden and the Palace of Holyroodhouse will host ‘Family Garden Party Tours’ on the 19th September.
The Royal Collection Trust have also produced an official range of china marking Her Majesty becoming Britain’s longest reigning monarch. The china is inspired by the design of the Coronation programme and has been produced exclusively for the Royal Collection Trust in Stoke-on-Trent.
