Official souvenirs bearing Platinum Jubilee logo launched

A range of commemorative products featuring the official Platinum Jubilee emblem has been produced by Royal Collection Trust, a department of the Royal Household, to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

The official emblem was designed by 19-year-old graphic design student Edward Roberts from Nottinghamshire. The design was chosen in The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Emblem Competition ran by the Victoria & Albert Museum in conjunction with Buckingham Palace.

The design is a continuous line drawing to symbolise Her Majesty’s long reign. The shape of the purple reflects the colour of Her Majesty’s Robe of Estate that was worn at the Coronation in 1953. The font used is ‘Perpetua’, meaning ‘forever’ and the font style imitates the font that was on Her Majesty’s Coronation Order of Service in 1953.

While planning for the range was underway, Edward visited the Potters in Stoke-on-Trent, where official commemorative china has been made for Royal Collection Trust for nearly 30 years. Items available for purchase include a fine bone English china coffee mug (£15), a tea-towel (£8.95), a keyring (£4.95), an umbrella (£12.95), a reusable water bottle (£9.95), and a shopping bag made from recycled plastic bottles (£8.95).

Roberts has designed an additional emblem in the same style of his winning entry. This design features continuous line drawing traces that outline the national flowers of the United Kingdom – a rose for England, a daffodil for Wales, a thistle for Scotland, and a shamrock for Northern Ireland. Three new products featuring the design will go on sale within the coming weeks including socks (£16) made in Wales, a fine bone English china coffee mug (£25) produced in Stoke-on-Trent, and a tin of shortbread biscuits (£12.95) made in Scotland. Each product will be sold with a limited edition of 2,022 in representation of the Jubilee year.

Reflecting on his new design, Roberts said: “With the new design, I wanted to create a set of products that stayed true to and worked well alongside the emblem design. Like my original submission, the flowers are part of a continuous line, capturing the delicate nature of these national symbols. I wanted to create a design that was contemporary, and in keeping with these modern times. Having these products in Royal Collection Trust shops and well received by the public is lovely to see.”

Products can be purchased online and will be sold in Royal Collection Trust shops at The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace, and on Buckingham Palace Road, and at Royal Collection Trust shops at Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The range is available alongside the Platinum Jubilee commemorative chinaware range, launched in November 2021, and a Platinum Jubilee English Sparkling Wine launched in February.

All profits from sales of the commemorative items go to The Royal Collection Trust, a registered charity that cares and conserves the Royal Collection. It also promotes the access and enjoyment of the collection through different exhibitions, loans, publications, and educational programmes.
