Mid-air drama for Queen Camilla as a bird collides with her plane

Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall

A plane carrying Queen Camilla was involved in a mid-air drama on Friday as it appeared to collide with a bird.

The British Airways Boeing Aircraft was carrying Her Majesty The Queen Consort from Bangalore in India to London Heathrow.

Videos and pictures captured on landing showed the nose of the plane with massive damage caused by a bird strike.

Queen Camilla, who is believed to have been in India on a health retreat, is known to have a fear of flying.

Her Majesty also suffers from severe jet lag and needs time to recover following long-haul flights.

Birds colliding with aircraft is a remarkably common occurrence, and there was never any danger to Her Majesty’s plane. In fact, according to the Civil Aviation Authority, in the four-year period between 2012 and 2016, there were more than 8,000 confirmed birdstrikes in UK airspace.

Buckingham Palace has not commented on the incident, although a spokesperson for British Airways said: “The aircraft landed safely, and customers disembarked as normal.”

The plane will be inspected, and once the damage is repaired, it will return to normal service.
