The Duchess of Cornwall visited the Prospect Hospice on Monday afternoon for its 40th anniversary in her role as their president.
Clarence House explained that the “hospice offers a range of services to bring care, comfort and confidence to patients. Carers and family members are also provided with services to support them following the death of a loved one.”
Camilla spent time with some of the members of the Bereavement Support Group, who had lost relatives in the Prospect Hospice, over tea. She also was able to experience virtual reality goggles that are used to help keep patients calm by showing a peaceful woodland scene. Ever the good sport, the Duchess was laughing and enjoying the virtual reality experience.
She also unveiled a new embroidery representing the Savernake Forest in Wiltshire that was hand-sewn by Marlborough Embroiderers Guild, which took around 30 women over four years to complete.
Over 300,000 people are supported in Swindon, Marlborough and North East Wiltshire by the hospice.
After Her Royal Highness left, Prospect Hospice tweeted how honoured they were at her appearance, “We were honoured to host HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, President of Prospect Hospice this afternoon where she met staff, patients, volunteers and supporters of the charity.”
