Charles III to be proclaimed King at St James’s Palace on Saturday morning

Buckingham Palace has announced that the Accession Council will be held at St James’s Palace on Saturday morning where Charles III will be formally proclaimed as King.

The Accession Council, attended by Privy Councillors, is divided into two parts.

In the first part, the Council will meet without the monarch. Here, they will proclaim The King as sovereign, and will formally approve consequential orders, including the arrangements for the Principal Proclamation.

After these formalities have concluded, The King will join the meeting – his first Privy Council.

His Majesty will make his Declaration and read and sign an oath to uphold the security of the Church in Scotland and approve Orders in Council which facilitate continuity of government.

Upon the conclusion of the Accession Council, the Garter King of Arms will read the Principal Proclamation from the balcony overlooking St James’s Palace.

A second Proclamation will be read in the City of London at the Royal Exchange at 12.00hrs on the same day.

Further Proclamations will be read in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales at 12.00hrs on Sunday 11th September.
