Camilla meets champion racehorse Honeysuckle on her visit to Ireland

The Duchess of Cornwall was introduced to one of the world’s most talented racehorses, Honeysuckle, during her visit to Ireland on Thursday. Her Royal Highness arrived at the yard of County Waterford trainer Henry De Bromhead in a bask of glorious weather.

When she entered the main yard she was introduced to Rachael Blackmore – one of racing’s leading jockeys.

In the past twelve months alone, Rachael has won two Champion Hurdles, a Gold Cup and the Grand National. She is the first woman to have ever won either the Gold Cup or the National.

After the human introductions were over, the star of the show emerged from her stable – the world’s best hurdler, Honeysuckle.

Camilla looked delighted as the bay mare entered the forecourt of the yard, her coat glistening in the sunshine.

Honeysuckle is unbeaten in her career, having won all 15 of her races. This includes three Irish Champion Hurdles, and two Champion Hurdles.

Her unblemished record makes her the first mare in history to have won two Champion Hurdles.

Upon seeing Honeysuckle, Camilla said: “You can’t beat a good mare.”

She then asked the trainer what the horse’s plans are for the future, to which De Bromhead revealed she will be taking a break, before returning next season in an attempt to win a third Champion Hurdle.

After meeting Honeysuckle, Camilla went on to be introduced to the 2021 Grand National winner, Minella Times.

De Bromhead said he hopes to see HRH again at Aintree in April where Minella Times will attempt to win back-to-back nationals, with Camilla due to present the winning trophy.

The Duchess of Cornwall is known to be a huge enthusiast of horse racing, and has owned several successful racehorses over the years.

De Bromhead said Her Royal Highness would be “absolutely welcome” to have a horse in training at his Waterford base.
