The Queen ‘hopes’ to attend Service of Thanksgiving for Prince Philip

The Queen and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

Buckingham Palace has confirmed The Queen still hopes to attend the Service of Thanksgiving for Prince Philip which will be held at Westminster Abbey next week.

It was also confirmed that members of the Royal Family will lead the congregation in remembering and paying tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh at the special ceremony.

Over 500 representatives from charities and organisations supported by Prince Philip will attend the service which takes place on March 29th 2022.

Joining them will be royalty from around the world as well as members of Prince Philip’s wider family and many of his friends.

Representatives from the Government, the Armed Forces and from around the Commonwealth have also been invited.

The Tribute at the Service will be given by a Gold Award recipient of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. That organisation will feature heavily in the service paying tribute to the Duke’s long life and public service.

The Band of the Royal Marines will provide music before and after the Service while the choirs of Westminster Abbey and the Chapel Royal will perform during the ceremony.

Prince Philip died on April 9th 2021 at the age of 99. His funeral took place at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor on April 17th 2021. Coronavirus pandemic restrictions meant only thirty people could attend. This is the first opportunity many associated with the Duke have had to pay a public tribute to him.
