King Charles III’s Coronation date revealed

King Charles, while still Prince of Wales, at the State Opening of Parliament. His Majesty read The Queen's Speech on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II in May 2022, five months before his accession.

King Charles III will be crowned on a date filled with significance for the House of Windsor.

His Majesty’s Coronation will take place on May 6th 2023, the anniversary of the accession of his great grandfather, King George V, the founder of the House of Windsor.

King Charles will be crowned alongside Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

It will be a solemn, religious service as well as a moment of tradition and celebration.

The date is a Saturday and falls just days after the first May Bank Holiday of the year in the UK.

No further details have yet been released. In recent days, it’s been reported that a smaller scale Coronation is planned for King Charles III with around 2,000 guests rather than the 6,000 who watched Queen Elizabeth II crowned in 1953.

The King’s Coronation will come eight months after his accession, a relatively short period compared to Monarchs of the past few centuries.

Charles III took the throne on September 8th 2022 on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
