On 3 December 2012, Clarence House announced what the world had been waiting for, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were expecting their first child. Fast forward to 22 July 2013, the Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to the hospital, in the early morning hours, in the early stages of labour. Journalists had been waiting outside the Lindo Wing for weeks, and finally, the long-awaited heir was on the way!
Ten and a half hours later, the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to her first child, a son, at 4:24pm BST. He weighed 8lbs and 6oz, the heaviest royal baby in 100 years. As with all royal births, an official notification of the birth was placed on an easel at Buckingham Palace. People from all over queued to see the announcement at the Buckingham Palace gate. The next day, the new prince was presented to the awaiting crowd and media by his proud parents. Prince William joked to the media, “He’s got more hair than me, thank God.”
On the 24 of July, Clarence House announced that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had named their son, Prince George Alexander Louis. The new prince’s birth was officially registered on 2 August, with his father, Prince William signing the birth certificate earlier that day in Kensington Palace.
On the 23 October 2013, Prince George was christened in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace. His godparents were Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Oliver Baker,  Jamie Loather-Pinkerton,  Earl Grosvenor, William van Cutsem, The Hon. Julia Samuel, and Zara Tindall.
In April 2014, George travelled with his parents to Australia and New Zealand on his first royal tour. His first public engagement was at a playdate at Government House, Wellington in New Zealand. This was organised by Plunket Society, which provides free health services to children under the age of five. His next engagement was on Easter Sunday at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, where he met a bilby named after him. He made his first balcony appearance at Buckingham Palace for the Trooping of the Colour on 13 June 2014.
On the 8 September 2014, it was announced that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were expecting their second child. Prince George became a big brother on 2 May 2015, when his sister, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born.
Prince George began his education in January of this year. He started nursery school at the Westacre Montessori School Nursery in Norfolk. He is expected to begin prep school in September 2017, but the school has yet to be determined.
From all of us here at Royal Central, Happy 3rd Birthday Prince George!Â
