Duchess of Cambridge three-peats a cream Alexander McQueen coat dress for Prince Louis’s christening

The Duchess of Cambridge wore a custom Alexander McQueen coat dress for Prince Louis’s christening this afternoon and paired it with a bandeau-style headpiece from milliner Jane Taylor.

Kate, who has worn Alexander McQueen to all of her children’s christenings, wore a simple cream-coloured coat dress with puffed shoulders and a deep v-neckline to mark the occasion. She cradled her infant son in her arms whilst entering the Chapel Royal, and was flanked by William, who was holding the hands of Prince George and Princess Charlotte. William and the children were dressed in complementing shades of blue.

Kate has often worn Jane Taylor hats at royal events, perhaps the most iconic being the beige fascinator Kate wore to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee service in 2012.

Prince Louis wore the replica christening gown that all royal babies since James, Viscount Severn, have worn. It is based on the christening gown commissioned by Queen Victoria for the birth of her eldest child in 1841. It was last used in 2004 for Lady Louise’s christening before being deemed too fragile for further wear.

Kate’s mother Carole Middleton and sister Pippa Matthews both wore dresses in shades of blue with Pippa’s being a custom Alessandra Rich design.

Louis’s christening took place this afternoon at the Chapel Royal of St James’s Palace. Besides the Cambridge family, who made their first public appearance as a family of five, others in attendance included the Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Middleton family and the godparents of Prince Louis with their spouses.
