Prince & Princess of Wales

Prince William’s position in The Royal Family is strengthened as he makes key decision on his Uncle Andrew’s future

The Duke of Cambridge played a key role in the removal of the Duke of York’s HRH status, his military titles and his patronages.

The Daily Mirror reports that The Queen hosted Prince William at Windsor Castle on Wednesday where they both collectively came to a decision on Prince Andrew’s future.

With her grandson’s support, the 95-year-old monarch made the decision to remove many of Andrew’s privileges.

A short Buckingham Palace statement read:

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “With The Queen’s approval and agreement, The Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to The Queen.

“The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen.”

The Mirror reports that after initial consultations with Prince William for more than an hour in her private quarters, the Prince of Wales joined proceedings.

A source told the publication: “If as expected Andrew offers and goes ahead with a multi-million pound settlement then his position will become untenable. The Queen could not take the chance of it coming to that and decided, along with her two heirs, the time for action had come.”

Russell Myers, Royal Editor at the Mirror, tweeted: “I understand Prince Charles was later integral to discussions on action taken by the Queen to strip Andrew of his military affiliations and banish him from royal life, but HMQ summoning William further demonstrates his strengthened and key position within the family.”
