Buckingham Palace has revealed that The Duke of Edinburgh is being treated for an infection.
Royal officials confirmed that Prince Philip, 99, is responding to the treatment and is ”comfortable”. The cause of the infection hasn’t been revealed.
The Palace said that the Duke will remain at King Edward VII’s Hospital in London for at least the next few days.
Prince Philip was admitted to hospital a week ago after feeling unwell in what was at the time being described as a “precautionary measure”.
Tuesday’s statement is the first update we have had from the palace since he was admitted for treatment seven days ago.
The Duke was visited at hospital over the weekend by his son, the Prince of Wales, who made a 200-round mile trip from Gloucestershire to attend his father in Central London.
Prince Charles only spent around 30 minutes in the hospital before once again departing for Highgrove House where he and the Duchess of Cornwall are currently residing.
