Big royal presence marks Guildhall reception to celebrate Platinum Jubilee

The Lord Mayor of London hosted a reception for the Royal Family following the Service of Thanksgiving for the Platinum Jubilee.

The lunch was also open to political authorities, like Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Interior Secretary Priti Patel, as well as former Prime Minister Theresa May.

Notably absent were the Duke of York, who will be missing the entire weekend of celebrations after testing positive for CoViD-19, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who officially renounced their roles in the Royal Family and moved to the United States at the beginning of 2020.

Princess Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, also had to skip the reception, as they were expected in Edinburgh for a visit to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in Scotland.

Her Majesty also opted to stay home, as, following her attendance in the Trooping the Colour ceremony yesterday, experienced some “discomfort” and the Palace announced she would not take part in events on June 3 2022.

The rest of the royal party was lead by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, who were followed by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their children Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn.

Other members of the family that were present included Peter Phillips, Mike and Zara Tindall, but also some of the Queen’s cousins, like the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and their children (Lady Gabriella Windsor and her husband Thomas Kingston, Lord Frederick Windsor and his wife Sophie), the Kents including Lord Nicholas Windsor, George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews and his wife Sylvana Tomaselli and Princess Alexandra and her son James Ogilvy with his wife Julia.

Also there were Princess Margaret’s descendants. The Earl of Snowdon arrived with his son Charles while Lady Sarah Chatto sat with her husband Daniel and their two sons Samuel and Arthur (the latter wearing his Royal Marines uniform).

The menu was a carefully curated presentation of traditional British dishes, as well as ingredients from Commonwealth countries – like South African, New Zealander and Australian wines.

So, all things considered, the Royal family showed a united front in support of Her Majesty and the historic occasion represented by this Platinum Jubilee.
