Prince George got a special birthday present at Buckingham Palace today as he celebrated turning nine.
Although the third in line to the throne wasn’t at the famous London royal residence he will one day call home, the Band of the Irish Guards serenaded him with two verses of Happy Birthday as he marked his special day.
George’s dad, Prince William, is Colonel of the Irish Guards. This year, they trooped their colour at the Sovereign’s Birthday Parade.
There was a big crowd to hear the rendition as today also marks the first day of Buckingham Palace opening to the public for the summer.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had earlier shared a new photo of their elder son for his birthday. George is seen smiling in the picture taken by his mother while the family enjoyed a UK holiday earlier this month.
The official social media accounts of the Royal Family also wished George a happy birthday with a photo taken at the Palace in June showing the young prince with his great grandmother, The Queen, during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
George Alexander Louis was born on July 22 2013 at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. He is third in line to the throne behind his grandfather, the Prince of Wales, and his father.
