Royal Rolex sells at auction for over $300,000

A one-of-a-kind Rolex 32.00ctw VVS1-VVS2 E-F diamond and 18K yellow gold watch has sold at an auction for $307,500; it was custom made for a member of a Royal Family although which member of which royal family remains a mystery. The auction house sells many items from Vietnamese royals, meaning it is likely from there.

The auction took place on Saturday, 15 June in Los Angeles, California, by world-renowned Kruse GWS Auctions who said, “The sale of the Rolex watch was one of the many outstanding outcomes of this weekend’s auction featuring fine jewellery, Vietnamese royal family artefacts, iconic fashion designer accessories and master timepieces.”

About the 66.4 gram watch, they revealed, “The magnificent timepiece was custom made by Rolex for a member of the royal family and is of museum quality. It was encrusted with approximately 32.00ctw genuine diamonds and features a pave diamond dial surrounded by a bezel lined with baguette cut diamonds, which also line the centre of the bracelet around the entire length of the piece. The watch was finished with round cut diamonds lining the outer perimeter the entire way around the piece finishing the piece flawlessly.”

The watch will go to the winner with a $500,000 insurance valuation report by a graduate appraiser.

Items were also sold during the auction that had belonged to Vietnamese royals including a Vietnamese Emperor Khai Din Imperial Office carved natural red Carnelian Dragon Censer and a Vietnamese 18th C. Bleu De Hue Snuff bottle marked “Jade”.

They have previously auctioned Elvis Presley’s sunglasses and Marilyn Monroe’s black wool dress.

You can find more information about the auction house, which is the only licensed American auction house that can sell Vietnamese royal artefacts, on their website: https://www.gwsauctions.com/. Auction results can be found here.
