Queen Letizia hears about impact of pandemic on female business leaders

Queen Letizia at FEDEPE meeting

Queen Letizia has attended a meeting of one of Spain’s leading organisations representing women business leaders and entrepreneurs.

The Spanish Federation of Executive, Professional and Business Women (known as FEDEPE) has just marked the 30th anniversary of its awards, which recognize outstanding women business leaders and entrepreneurs throughout Spain. Letizia is Honorary President of the Awards, a role she took on before becoming queen.

FEDEPE advocates for gender equality and for inclusive female leadership models that increase women’s participation in the workplace.

Queen Letizia arrived at ESADE Business School Stadium in Madrid, where she was received by Irene Montero, Spain’s Equality Minister. Also present to receive Queen Letizia was the Director of ESADE, Mario Lara, and the President of FEDEPE, Ana Bujaldón.

The Queen was given an overview of FEDEPE’s work, which includes bringing together various public and private sector groups across Spain to address gender discrimination and related topics. FEDEPE is an advisory body of the UN’s Economic and Social Council, which focuses on sustainable development projects throughout the world.

The meeting, on May 26th 2021, focused on the effects the coronavirus pandemic has had for women entrepreneurs and executives. FEDEPE presented the results of its COVID-19 Barometer: Women in Business Report, which incorporated feedback from female leaders from the healthcare, real estate, and journalism industries.
