Princess Sofia of Sweden takes on new project for children

Sweden’s Princess Sofia has taken on a new project this autumn.

The Princess has been recorded by Sverige’s Radio, reading a fairytale for the children’s radio show Sagor i Barnradion.

Sofia, a mother of three young boys, read “Viktor’s new shirt” by the author Camilla Gunnarsson to mark the reading holiday – or autumn holiday – in Sweden.

The story focuses on Viktor and his father as the pair shop for a new shirt for the little boy. Viktor finds a pink shirt he likes, but his father does not approve.

Princess Sofia spoke on her choice of book, saying, “The book puts the finger on the importance of us adults being role models and thinking before we transfer our fears and prejudices to our children. And that our children are sometimes wiser than us adults.”

The book is also popular at home with her three sons with Prince Carl Philip; Princes Alexander, Gabriel, and Julian count it as one of their favourites.

Her recording was broadcast on P4 and SR Play on Halloween for the show that is aimed at three to eight-year-olds.

Princess Sofia’s almost nine-minute recording can be heard here.

About the reading programme Princess Sofia took part in, Sverige’s Radio said: “Through these voices and stories, we hope to inspire more families to read and listen together.”
