Swedish navy sailors have now been professionally organized for 250 years. This week, they had royal guests visiting to celebrate the big anniversary. On November 16th 2021, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia attended their jubilee dinner at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm.

Rear Admiral Anders Grenstad, chairman of the Royal Warriors’ Society, hosted the King and Queen during the evening and gave the main speech during the dinner. He said in his speech: “During this anniversary year, we has conducted events and activities in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Karlskrona. The program has been extensive and I would like to extend a big and warm thank you to everyone involved in planning and implementation, you have all made a significant contribution to making it such a success”.

Anders Grenstad, chairman of The Swedish Royal Seamen Society and secretary Bo Rask chaired the ceremonial meeting, which included traditional talks and the distribution of awards. A total of 307 people attended the dinner this Monday.

The Swedish Royal Seamen Society is one of the ten royal academies in Sweden. The academy was founded in Stockholm in 1771 and is today Sweden’s oldest and probably also one of the world’s oldest military scientific societies. It was the Swedish king, Gustav III, who established the academy and society eleven months after he had taken the throne. King Carl XVI Gustaf was elected to be member of the society in 1968 and is its first honorary member in the society`s history.
